Patti Hamaguchi wrote Susan B! as an homage to Susan B. Anthony, who was a warrior for women's rights. It's a privilege to work with all of these talented actors on this project, and Holly PS on this Zoom version! The musical version will be ready for the stage in early 2021. Patti wants to thank her Monday night Theater/Writer group for their patience, feedback, and superb acting skills to help shape up this script, as well as Richard Caliban, Tony Conniff and Tal McThenia from Gotham. When Patti isn't writing plays and music, she is a pediatric speech-language pathologist and makes apps for children with special needs. Thanks also to her husband Norihito and two kids, Justin and Sara, for all their love and support.
Susan explains to her mother why she's finally decided to put on the "bloomers" like the other women in the women's rights movement in the mid-1800's. **We are reworking the songs and adding more for the musical version, but please enjoy the Zoom songs!
For the next three years (2021-2023), the script and music of Susan B! will be made available at no cost to any local, regional or educational theater program, either the musical version or the shorter, non-musical Zoom version. We know that the coronavirus shut-down has impacted theaters around the country. Our goal is to help theaters and the acting community, while at the same time, provide an enjoyable way to experience the story of Susan B Anthony. The musical script calls for a minimum of 5 female and 5 male roles, with a maximum of 44! Very flexible for both small and large casts, and an economical stage set-up. If your theater is in the NYC/CT/Boston/NY/Philly area, we can also work with you to lend our costumes and props if you are putting on the show.
